What Happened to Gannon Stauch?

ABOUT THIS EPISODE

Hi and welcome back to did you lock the door? The podcast. I'm your host, Peyton Reese, and thank you. I have a familiar voice with me today. It is I will. Yes, which episode are you on? Las Le Douski? Yeah, my Calis Le Doucy episode. Yeah, we both have great memories, clearly. Oh yeah, absolutely. So today we're going to be talking about a case that I've been seeing all of our social media for a little bit, but I actually didn't really look into it until one of my favorite true crime youtubers named Kendall Ray, did a video on it. It's the case of missing boy Gannon Stouk. This one is really sad, really horrific, really heartbreaking. It's really obvious what happened, I think, or it's obvious who did it, but it's not really obvious why or what exactly happened. Yeah, to Gannon. So, without further ADO, well, get right into it. Gannon was born to a landon and Albert Stouk, Al for short. I was his dad, and he had a younger sister named Layla. He was born in South Carolina, but he moved to Colorado after Al got offered a job there. He was actually born prematurely at only one pounds six ounces, and he was not supposed to survive, but, like the fighter that he was, he'd beat all the odds and he grew up to be pretty healthy little boy. He was known to be incredibly sweet and out going. He loved to play outside with his friends and his little sister and play video games, particularly sonic the HEDGEHOG. That's my boy right there, which I was going to say I think will also plays side except sonic. Oh six, obviously, but obviously I could venture. His parents would divorce when he was very young, and this is rumored to be because of al seeing another woman, and I think this rumor is kind of proven by the fact that, following the divorce, Al quickly married the woman that was a subject of these rumors, named Latitia Tsha and or tea for short, but I'm going to be calling her latitia throughout this episode. Her name isn't good, but tappled with the fact that she's like a dumpster fire, it's like not hell for him, but hey, you know. And actually, when Al Married Latitia, Letitia had a daughter, are so Gannon, and Layla would gain an older step sister. So...

...we're going to jump into the timeline again. Gannon is eleven years old at the time of these events. Saturday January twenty five of this year, actually two thousand and twenty, Latitia and Gannon are cleaning out the garage when Gannon, according to Latisha, this is coming from her, somehow cuts his foot. It wasn't too severe, just blood a little. Apparently he was okay because the next day, Sunday January twenty six, latitia would take Gannon and Layla on a hike to a place known as the garden of the Gods in Colorado Springs. Absolutely beautiful place. I should I've looked it up. Yeah, I looked it up when I was researching this and it is beautiful. Have you been there? No, never pick it, but I when I saw a picture it looks great, look stunning. So I just a little bit about that part because I think it looks really fun. It's totally free. It includes fifteen miles of hiking trails. Do you can horseback ride, rock climb? They have jeep door jeep tours and birdwatching and they also provide segways for our guests to write around. Then, I know come in with mall copping so awesome myself. So that evening, when the family got home from the hike, AL, who was out of town on business at the time, got a text from the Tishas dating that Gannon had knocked over a candle which had spilled and burned part of their carpet, and she said that he felt horrible and really bad about it. So Al should not get mad at him, which will be in very interesting tex later on when some other stuff is revealed. So remember that. So the next day, the twenty seven, Gannon does not attend school due to an apparent stomach bug. However, Latitia does apparently allow him to go out and play with some friends around three four in the afternoon. Like that on its own is suspect. Like if I told my mom I was sick at that age, I was threatened with getting a lie detector test like this. Do got to go out and hang on the front man? Yeah, I don't know any parent that would allow you. I mean I'm sure there are some, but yeah, just like will, I had to have like a one hundred and ten fever, yeah, and be on my deathbed to stay home from with the measles and everything, like I had to be just about friends for sure. So I don't believe that personally. But latitia will call the police to report Gannon missing at around six that evening, so that's Monday, the twenty seven, stating that he left between three fifteen and four pm to go play with a friend and he was supposed to be home before dark but had not yet returned. The police do come and take this seriously, but they do initially file it as a juvenile runaway due to latitia telling them that she had recently found a search on Gannon's phone. That was, quote, can your parents track your phone if it is turned off, which is only like one so like kendle kind of worry was her name? Yeah, yeah, like she said,...

...like if I'm gonna, if I'm at run away, I'm on make sure that there's like nothing that can happen. If I search it once, it's because it was like a kid get it up. Yeah, like thinking about it, but Kenna Ray stayed in her video that she thinks he probably would have done more searches, especially being so young, you probably wouldn't know he was doing. Yeah, so, and he also didn't take anything except the clothes on his back. So he yeah, so if he was planning a running away, he was going to do a really bad job. Yeah, he probably. It probably would have been one of those cases like kids do sometimes, where they like hide in a tree in their backyard or they walked then of the block and they're like, oh no, yeah, they like how kind a scooter and like Oh, you'll shoot? Okay, never mind, bad idea. So Thursday January thirty, police announced that they are changing the status of Gannon's case from juvenile runaway to a missing and or endangered person. There would have been a snowstorm around the time that Gannon went missing, so if he was out on his own, he was likely not equipped to handle the weather conditions at all. was very, very cold and he might have had like a Hoodie or something. Yeah, definitely not not prepared. No, no storm. So even if he had run away, he was definitely considered endangered at this time. The police also asked the public to avoid spreading quote, misinformation on social media. On Monday February third latisha goes on KK TV, which is Colorado local CBS affiliate, to discuss scannon's disappearance, and she actually makes an interesting choice to face away from the camera. See, you see the back of her head, kind of the side of her face, and she's also wearing sunglasses. Yeah, well, like, and it goes to show like why is she's so scared of facing the camera, on top of the fact that the way she's facing, there's no real rahmor reason have us, like, from what you see, where the sun is, the interviewer has more of a reason to want to use them than she does. Yeah, to wear sunglasses. Yeah, but my man was a trooper, he was. I mean she does say some stuff in the interview that hints to why she wouldn't want her face being seen, but it's still an odd choice, I is. Yeah, it just more weird behavior to add on to a lot of other weird behavior on her part. So in this interview, pretty much the whole interview, she focuses on false accusations made against her and she says that people have made up to twenty death threats against her and her family, which, if true, is awful, and that's why I think she chose to face away from the camera. If she was getting death threats, which she was, that in my not have been unwarranted, but she wouldn't. Well, I mean they also stated like the family had always been talking about like at least Al and and Lynda, Linda Land Landon Ow were Alan Landon were being like completely like helped by people in general.

MMM. So I find it hard to believe that at least her family was being threatened. I would assume that it was just her. So I think she's like compensating for something. I know she was and still is getting death threats, but I don't think it was until some more information that we're about to discuss came out and it hadn't broke at the time of this interview. So, yeah, I don't know if she had already gotten death threats or if she was just trying to garner sympathy for herself, but she's on. She claims that when speaking to the police, she was denied an attorney and not allowed to leave. They said it. She said that they even blocked the door to try to keep her in. So which short, yeah, it is highly illegal. You can't can keep someone there with no evidence. She says, quote, I took care of this child for the last two years in our home because his mother didn't want to. I would never, ever hurt this child. She almost never says or she almost never calls Gannon by name, which is a red flag in my opinion, on top of not telling him to come home, saying he's loved you, not in trouble, nothing of that sort. Like when you listen to like her voice at throughout that interview, she sounds more irritated, HMM, than like. And like you hear her mom, like his mom, I'm sorry, talking and she's like about to like burst out into tears, and then you hear Latitia, who's like just sounds like irritable, and you're just like, oh, yeah, she doesn't sound concerned, not in any way, not in the slightest. Like there's there's guilty and then there's like guilty. She even talks about how she's ready for Gannon to come home so that he can quote tell everyone what really happened and clear her name. So again, like we just said, nothing about she's worried for him, she misses him, she loves him, she's just worried about herself and her reputation. Red Flag. It's Crimson, HMM, blood red flag. Literally. So on this same day of Monday, February, third official state that they've put thousands of man hours into searching for Gannon. Already they've utilized people, drones and rescue dogs. The FBI and the National Center for Missing and exploited children were involved in the searches, which is really great. But while these searches are going on, Latitia is not participating, claiming again it's because of the death threats she's received, but she is posting several selfies of her and Gannon on Facebook, as well as posts, the likes of which I will read to you now. They're very weird. Some of them are a very long and drawn out and she also includes screenshots of texts between her and Ol that don't really have anything to do with the case, in my opinion. So I'll read you this first post now. It is a bit wordy, but it might give...

...us some more insight into her state of mind at the time. So quote. I want to thank my family and friends and the Carolinas who know my character and my dedication to our family. I have sleepless nights every day wondering what could have happened differently. Don't let the media fool you with videos and false info. I have cooperated with everyone and given them all that they ask for. Sometimes they let social media create these accusations to keep them busy, because people involved in that nonsense have no interest in finding Gannon. With that set, I will only tell the truth, not accusations. I've spent the last six years of my life fighting for custody battles. Helped Albert pay for it all. Was the only person who stood by him in court room after court room. I took the kids from coast to coast to be with each parent, even driving through the night, extreme weather conditions and countless amounts of airplanes. This is not to bash any parent going through pain, but to say that I have pain as well. Everyone remembers months upon months when I was the only provider Albert and Alaska and Landon was all over the place. We rescued the kids from horrible houses, living in motels, guns in the back of their cars, their houses, getting robbed, all the way up until I got the instagram messages saying that she could not take care of them anymore. Out of love for my step kids and my husband, I stepped in, delayed getting my doctorate, took care of them because I wanted to. Took them on adventures that most kids their age would never see, my husband had to prep the kids every time they went with their mom for their safety, until we eventually had them in our home. Ninety percent of the time he works crazy hours, lots of schools, training and took care of our needs. I took care of these two children like my very own. I wasn't perfect, but everyone saw all our pictures and the love that I gave them. Was it hards sometimes, of course, because I grew up with Amy Lowry, my stepsister, and all of our families got along with no problems. So it was difficult navigating through that, but I want everyone to know that it is well with my soul because I would never harm a child, especially not our children. On Sunday we went on a hike and Gannon was there crying with me because I was crying. It was the day Kobe passed away, but he had no idea who he was, just that I was upset. I had every intention of covering up the fire that he had started and protecting his feelings from what punishment he thought he was going to get. That was our plan. The next day was to rectify the situation so that his little heart could stop crying. I have the video because somehow my phone was recording and you can hear how sorry he was. I have the pictures after we returned home. So please don't believe with these people are speculating. Albert is hurt. He has a lot on him and he has always left me in charge of the kids. He has to go through his emotions but will start to remember how I how I helped rescue them and have been our family's rock. I'm going to make the next post just about Gannon, but I wanted to clear up some of these accusations. These people have painted me to be this horrible person and I wanted people to know the truth that I had the kids because they were in an unfit situation. I rescued...

...them because I love them. That's the kind of person I am, who would continue to love them and want them because I just sit back and let people say horrible things that just weren't true. Just some of the facts. There are hundreds more. So they need to be looking at finding Gannon, not blaming me. So that was a long and Windey Post. Like I said, sorry about that. And the video that she discusses in there where she says she was actually accidentally recording something is something that we will come back to and discuss later. So don't worry if you were a little bit confused there. We're definitely going to talk about it. It's just something I think fits in a little better once you learn a bit more of the information. She released text messages with that post that I just read that literally have nothing to do with anything she said. Like, I have no idea. So she's texting Albert about one of Gannon's friends and will I'm not going to show you these. I want you to just reacts to them and some apparent trouble that I guess Gan and in this friends were thinking about getting into. But again, they don't make any sense to me. I don't know why they were attached to the post. I will just read them. So this is Alberts, or actually I'll read Albert. Will all, let you read. Let t shaw, okay, and react as you read. Okay, all right, okay. He is talking about a friend that brother has a car and doing a sleepover, same kid that asked about bath salts, and then, in all caps, Albert says absolutely not. I haven't let him ever do a sleepover and he will not sleep over. We don't even have bath salts? Is it like the ones for the top? Yes, research it. It's bad. It's kind of like Meth, I think, when they use them for drugs. It's deadly. She sends a picture of spruce bath salts this I think. He came into my room asking me about it last night and I gave him a bath bomb. He took two baths. I just thought it. He was dirty from from pants, yeah, dirty from me. Okay, Oh wow. And then Albert says it's fine for baths. He said something about a friend. Bath salts are dangerous. He asked me yesterday. Were they the same as salt. I told Harley and she was like mom, the bad ones, and I just told him no, bath bombs weren't the same. I'll ask him why. He asked you and the kids need to stay off tick tock. Okay, is that bad? And he said don't worry about it, he was just asking to see what they were. And the last text is cut off. It's Albert saying he's talking about a friend that and then nothing else. So again I have no idea what that had to do with her post even a little bit at all.

My God, Woll like, do you keep tip do keep kids off tick tock those they are dangerous about. We don't need them. We don't need no more crunchy dances. Oh my God. So, along with weird posts like that, she also posted a lot bad mouthing landon, who was Gannon's mom, just a reminder, saying that he never wanted, or she never wanted to be a part of Gannon's life and that she had a long history of drug abuse that affected both Gannon and Layla, his younger sister. Also, in one post, I couldn't find a screenshot of it, but I did hear another youtuber read it, she refers to him in the past tense, which, as all of us crime fans know, is a very, very bad sign of very very big red flag, just like everything else she's done yet to this point. But yeah, when someone refers to someone in the past tense, they they know. When I'm watching crime shows or listening to podcast I always listen for someone to do that, because that it's like they killed them. Because so in the middle of the this whole situation, Gan and going missing. It is rumored but not proven. I just want to say that that latitia brought someone in to replace the carpet in the middle of Ganon being missing, which is weird because your kid is missing. Yeah, the kid that we focused on that you're like your kid. Supposedly I'm taking care of him for two years. He's gone. Let me fix the carpet. He burned at best, and the police had already checked the house at this point, so I'm guessing she wasn't replacing it to like disguise blood or evidence or something, but it does show that Gannon is not her first priority in anyway. Absolutely on Tuesday February fourth, there would be a huge break in the case. Their next door neighbor would come forward with footage that he recorded on his home security camera, which is mounted outside, that shows latitia and Gannon getting to her car, getting into her car at thirteen am, which is the same day that Latitia said Gannon was sick at home all day and then went out to play with a friend, and when they get into the car, Gannon actually gets into the back seat behind Latitiha not up front in the passenger seat with her, which I think is weird, and some people that have viewed the video feel that he walks and gets into the car very slowly. Like he's hesitant, who doesn't want to get in, and both of those things are very odd to me. Almost like he was scared of her. Yeah, something was going to happen. Yeah, I know, like one that completely destroys everything that she had been saying. Yeah, but to you, you see him like skipping his steps and like you see him like slowly open the door and you're like, my God, Hmm, this is this woman doing to him? It's really odd to me actually that he sits in the back at all, because he was young,...

...he was small, but when I was eleven I was definitely sitting in the passenger seat and I wasn't sitting in the back. The only time actually I would sit in the back was when I was mad at my mom or upset about something. Man, I was. So I never said I would. I would, it was because I would lose it, like I lose it to my own someone else fell shot. Yeah, but no, if it was just me and a parent in the car, I was only in the back if I was upset. So I think that I'd even back. Alas, speaks to yeah, maybe she told him to sit in the back. Well, put the Layla didn't get in the car. So it was like unless, like she had something in Layla was at school. Yeah, so like, unless she had stuff in the front seat. But, like, I don't know true, if it can be that too, but it's just weird. No, absolutely, without about that. Screamed more red flags. My God, she is flagging down an airplane. So again, the car left with both Latitia and Gannon at thirteen am and the car will return at to nineteen PM and only Latisha gets out. Gannon is no longer with her. He's not in the car. It's not like he's stayed in the car this entire time and no one sound him. Yet he's not with her anymore. The neighbor that came forward also showed the footage to Gannon's father prior to showing it to the police, and upon viewing it, Albert broke down crying and said, quote, she lied. She lied about the time he didn't go to a friend's house. This neighbor also stated that he saw Gannon and Layla playing in the front yard the morning of the day that he would go missing and that he said Hi and they said hi back, but something about the interactions seemed off. He couldn't quite place it, but he just had like a yucky feeling in his stomach after it happened. So this neighbor has been so vital to the case and I think his intuition was in all the right places, even that morning before anything really bad it happened. Yet he could sense that something was just not right that day. And it's also funny to note that what was her name? Lutitia Latisha lets you show tried to say that in the video you could see get you couldn't see Gann and getting out, but he did because the car was too high. Yeah, but you can see me getting in, so shut up. Yeah, but not only that, like where the car stopped. Even if you were going to claim that, you should have still been able to see him come around the back where you would see a shadow of something. I know you didn't see anything. MMM. So after this video was released, let's he show would claim that she had taken gain into Petco but that, since he was sick, he had stayed in the car. Pet Co employees confirmed that she was there, but they said that she kept walking up to the front of the store and just staring at the parking lot, which makes me think maybe he did stay in the car and she was scared he would run away or something. Yeah, because she hadn't hurt him yet, but he knew she was going to. Yeah, that's what I kind of was thinking. I was like, maybe she kept walking in to see if he's left, because they're like a whole of your plants. Yeah. So on Wednesday February v Gannon's...

...biological parents and his little sister make a televised plea for his return, in which Landon Calls Gannon her quote hero, and his little sister Layla, ends the video with I love you, Bubba, which is so sad. Oh my God. On Monday march second, Latitia is arrested and charged with first degree murder of a child under twelve by a person in a position of trust, tampering with a deceased human body, tampering with physical evidence and child abuse resulting in death. And it's very interesting to me that they charged her with all of this prior to a body even being found. I mean, we're recording this the evening of Friday march thirteen and so far they still don't know where Gannon is. HMM, but I think it's great. She shouldn't still be roaming the street. She's obviously a dangerous person, without a doubt. She's obviously an evil, vile person. So I'm glad they did. And the fact that they arrested her means that they have something we don't know about yet that is enough to charge her. And even the evidence we do know about, obviously she did something, you know, without it, obviously, obviously so. Following the arrest, Gannon's mother and father would make public statements. His mother said quote. Today I got the worst news and the best news. Obviously we know what the worst news is. The best news is that justice will be served and I'll make sure that justice is served because my boy did not deserve any of this that happened. Just hold on to questions until we know that this person, this stepmom that I even trusted, that she will pay one hundred percent for this heinous thing she has done, and I know that's what will be done. She also stated that the outpouring of support and love for the family and for Gannon, stepmother excluded, makes her feel like Gannon is still here with them. The father was not. He did not feel capable of making a statement himself. So the share of Fred it for him. It stated that quote. The person who committed this heinous, horrible crime is the one that I gave more to than anyone else on this planet, and that is a burden I will carry with me for a very long time. I've been looking forward to his teenage years and the fun we had ahead of us as he became a young man. My little boy is not coming home. We will never play Nintendo again, no more TACO Tuesday, no more smooth looking haircuts, no more g man for the world. My God, I know, Dude, like as a father, like, I can only imagine. We're like you think you found the person that you want to be with and you turn out like you're like, oh my God, what have I done? Will is not a father. I am not. I am not, but I can only imagine. I guess, the pain. Oh, I know has statements here and the contrast between those statements and everything latitia ever said. All they care about is Gannon, all they care about us as well being and now getting justice for him. She...

...didn't care at all. I don't know if it's happened, but like has landin like ever had like an interview where she kind of like completely like went after Latitia at any point? I don't believe so. That just like goes to show that like land and didn't really care so much about what was being said about her. She didn't care. She just wanted her son back, obvious, and latitia cared so much more like, I don't know, man like. Well, no, no, I do know. She guilty. So, Latitiha. I originally read that she had showed this video to the police, but since then I found some information that leads me to believe she might have posted it on facebook prior to her arrest. But this is the video she was discussing in that Super Long, drawn out facebook post that I read, and it's is go first of all, let me just say she either posted this to facebook or showed it to the police because she thought it would prove her innocence, which it does not. Know, it's it makes her look, I mean, yeah, mean it's really bad. Anyway, this video, it's apparently the aftermath of when Landon spilled that candle and it burnt the carpet and Latitia is talking to him about it and Gannon does respond in the video. It is a bit disturbing and upsetting. So skip forward about a minute and fifteen seconds if you don't feel it's something you can listen to. No apparent harm comes to Gannon in this video, but just the tone of his voice and some of the things she's saying I think might be upsetting to some people. So if any sort of even hinted at abuse against children is something you really can't listen to, I would advise that you skip ahead a little bit and promise is the last time. She is freaking out face. Are you sure you didn't do it on purpose? Okay, Peeky coms. Okay, all right, so listen, listen, but it all right, we're gonna so stuff to takes it. Okay. So I figure out what we gotta so we until the Sofa. We can so whatever because we gotta get it sake. So, lady, don't men it us in kick aside the house. Okay, you got it. Oh yeah, as I said, pretty disturbing stuff. Hard to hear at the second time. That's really rough to me. It sounds like Gannon is either terrified or hurt that video, or both. I that video gives me the impression that she just hurt him or berated him so badly again, or both, and he...

...is terrified, not absolutely like that, the way he was crying and like when he said Pinky, I was at, Oh my God, the way he said it. kind of he said it like it's something that they do often, if that makes sense. Like yeah, like she gets him in this kind of situation often and makes him pinky promise that he hasn't done something, but kids do. And not only that, like so she like he's like telling him in the video about talking to him about how they're going to have to sell stuff. Like he's eleven years old. I don't think he needs to know. Like let's just say all she did was reprimand him for accidentally kicking out, quote Unquote, kicking over a candle. If that's all she did, why did she also have to throw in like the kick them while he's down a portion of yeah, we're gonna have to sell some stuff. We're going to have so that way, is the old lady who you know, who's renting us this places? I'm going to kick his out. I'm like, do you have to tell your eleven year old quote unquote, steps on that information? Yeah, sounds like at the very least, there was some emotional abuse going on. In this household. His voice is just so haunting and that it is so sad. When I saw that video, I was like she did it. Oh, no, without a doubt. Yeah, I know, like that confirmed everything, if it wasn't for anything prior. And she said that she accidentally recorded this video, but the phone was in her hand. Yeah, you don't see anything, but the phone was in her hand and it just perfectly captured like nothing before. And also the start of the video she says I freaked out or something like that. So that also leads me to believe that she freaked out and hit him or screamed so hard that it caused him to react like he did this. The terrifying part about it is how often did she freak out? HMM, like definitely, like this kid was like eleve haunting. Yeah, and he's eleven years old and he's like he is me personally, like I had. I my mom would discipline me physically before, but like if I cried, like that's because I got an ass woman. Now he's like that's that's the only reason. Ever. Why? Oh my God, that's hard. So, as we said before, Latitia is in custody at this point. She's been charged. She is not going to be out or doing anything else. A Status Conference for the case has been scheduled for April fourteenth of this year at three PM, where they will check back in with the progress of this case and hopefully have new evidence to look over, and I'm sure they will. Seems like updates come out every day. So hopefully they'll be finding gannon sooner rather than later and hopefully sooner rather than later will learn what actually happened to him, what the catalyst was for her doing what we know she did. HMM. And they've already compiled a list of witnesses for the case and it...

...includes hundreds of people, including several police officers, FBI agents from both Colorado and South Carolina, Gannon's biological parents and Latitia's daughter, who was Gannon's stepsister. Investigators are currently searching areas east of Colorado Springs. They are competent, just like I am, that they will be able to find his body, but they say there is a lot of rough terrain search so they know it likely will not be easy. I am confident, however, with how effective the police work has been so far. I mean they discovered a lot in a short period of time and the fact that they still have a lot of people, drones, dogs out there every day, that they will find him. My only worry is that maybe Lati show will plead guilty or something, and in that case you don't have to provide a motive, so we won't know why this happened to Gannon. Can she technically attempt to plead insanity? She could, but there's no real that's actually a really hard plea to get away with. Yeah, I just see it TA. Yeah, I know, me too. I used to think that all the time. I'm like, please seeunity, but no, it's actually very difficult. There are a lot of cases where I think the person could have pleaded insanity and they don't get away with it. The course as now. Yeah, this was a very sad case. I wanted will to come on to do it with me, because I think he has fun energy that I think this case. Ne Go. See, it's really hard. My God. Yeah, eleven years old. HMM, we're sitting here like we're in our Twenti S and when, like my God, like its kid doesn't even get experienced and he's yeah, so sad, so young. But thank you so much for listening. I don't want to say I hope you enjoyed stupisode, but I hope you found it informative and if you like this podcast, please give us a review and a rating on whatever platform you're listening.
